Heart Disorders

Endomyocarditis, Cardiomyopathy

endomyocarditis - an acute or chronic inflammatory disorder of the muscle and lining membrane of the heart. The principal causes are rheumatic fever and virus infections. There is enlargement of the heart, murmurs, embolism, and frequently arrhythmias.

Cardiomyopathy is a chronic disease of the heart muscle (myocardium), in which the muscle is abnormally enlarged, thickened, and/or stiffened.

Heart Rhythm Disorders

Heart, Rhythm Control
The rhythmic control of the cardiac cycle and its accompanying heartbeat relies on the regulation of impulses generated and conducted within the heart

Stroke (insult)

A stroke, also called a cerebral infarction, is a life-threatening condition marked by a sudden disruption in the blood supply to the brain.

Varicose Veins and Thrombosis

Varicose veins are dilated, tortuous, elongated superficial veins that appear most often in the legs.

thrombosis - obstruction of an artery or vein by a blood clot (thrombus).

Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is the build up of a waxy plaque on the inside of blood vessels.

Hypertension

Hypertension is high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of arteries as it flows through them.

Ischemic Heart Disease, Myocardial Infarction

ischaemic heart disease (IHD, coronary heart disease, CHD) n. a disease in which the supply of oxygen to the myocardium is inadequate, usually as a result of narrowing of the lumen of the coronary arteries by atheroma. The main symptom is chest pain of varying intensity. Untreated, it can lead to coronary thrombosis and myocardial infarction.

myocardial infarction (MI) - death of a segment of heart muscle, which follows interruption of its blood supply (see coronary thrombosis).

Heart Attack

A heart attack is the death of, or damage to, part of the heart muscle because its blood supply is severely reduced or stopped.
